A number of classes created postcards and letters for over 40 veterans at a luncheon held for them at the Waterside Retirement Lodge this past Monday.
Last Thursday three veterans from the Waterside Retirement Lodge visited the school to pick up the student created cards and letters. The three veterans from the Second World War visited a number of classes and answered questions from the students. The staff at the Retirement Lodge decorated the room on Monday with all the letters and cards created by the Birchview students.
Thanks to the students in Mrs. Baumgarten’s class, Mr. Brook’s class, Mr. McLean’s class, and the students who have french with Madame Vaine.
In Mr. Mclean’s grade 8 art periods, each component of the human face is taught separately, because of the complexity of the final task, which is to draw a human face, free hand. The works attached to this posting come from Curtis and Jill from that same class. The time, skill, and patience needed to pay attention to the fine details which make these works so remarkable, is truly admirable and worthy of this entry.
N.B. We are assured that Jill and Curtis do not practice their art skills during Mr. McLean’s math lessons.
Yesterday, two young students, Lexie N. from Mr. Pike’s class and Tash R. from Mr. Carson’s class competed in the Stayner Royal Canadian Legion Public speaking contest. Tash, who presented her speech on gravity and Lexie, who talked about World Hunger both spoke very well with Tash placing third overall. both students are to be commended for their efforts as they represented themselves, their families, and Birchview Dunes tremendously well. Congratulations!! (Mr. Carson)
