Water Update

I am pleased to inform everyone that the water sample taken by The Ontario Clean Water Agency indicates that the water is clear for consumption.  All fountains and sinks will be accessible tomorrow.  I would like to thank the Birchview Dunes community for their understanding and support in this matter.

Excerpt from information provided by the Public Works Dept – Town of Wasaga Beach:

The sedimentation in the distribution system was the direct result from maintenance activity at the Powerline Road Water Treatment Facility wherby flows in the distribution pipes reversed direction resulting in a scouring action of the inside wall of the pipes.  The resultant brownish discolouration is associated with iron precipitate.  Although the precipitate is unsightly, the water at no time was unsafe.

Subsequent to the site inspection from the Town’s operating authority, the Ontario Clean Water Agency (OCWA), a water sample was taken and the laboratory results have since been received, which affirm that the water was not adverse.

Water Update

The water is now clear as it was flushed through.  We will follow the established procedures and wait for the water sample to be tested.   I will notify families when we receive the results.  Until we receive a positive result we will continue to provide water and sanitizers.  As mentioned before, we expect to hear the results on Thursday.   From speaking with parents, it seems this also affected homes around the school.

Water Issue

The following  information was sent by synervoice (voice messaging) and email.

Parents/Guardians;

Before school started this morning our custodial staff identified a water issue in the building.  Immediately the Simcoe Board staff and the township were notified.  The custodial staff bagged and tagged all water outlets (fountains and sinks) and a notices were posted at the front door and around the school stating ‘Public Notice – Do Not Drink the Water’ (This is mandated by the Ministry of  Health).

Board staff delivered bottled water and hand sanitizers before school started and these were distributed.  Another shipment of water, sanitizers, and wipes arrived later in the morning.

The Town of Wasaga Beach personnel arrived and took a water sample to be tested. We expect to have the results by Thursday.  Until the test results arrive, we will have water and hand sanitizers in the classroom.   You may want to provide your child with their own water if you choose to do so.

 We are monitoring the situation and the school is open for learning.  Please visit the school’s new website (http://www.bir.scdsb.on.ca) as I will provide an update on this issue.

Please call me if you have any questions.
