Thursday September 19, 2013

  •  The Book Fair will be open today during second break for sales and again tonight during the BBQ.  Books can be purchased with cash, debit, Visa, Mastercard and cheques.  The goal is to make a profit of $3000.00 so that new books can be purchased for the library.
  •  Thank you to those who have brought in Terry Fox donations. Our total is $138 and climbing, and we have one week until our run next Thursday. Donations will be accepted in the office every morning in your donation envelopes.
  •  Attention: There will be a Final Flag Football tryout TODAY after school. If you are trying out for the Cross Country Team you are asked to meet Mr. Osborn, Mr. McLean, Mrs. Dea and Mrs. Duits first to complete 3 laps for your Cross Country training.  When you have completed your laps, please come to the field to participate in the Flag Football tryouts. The practice will be over at 4:30 pm. 
  • Could all students in grade 7 or 8 that submitted an application for Emcee or Announcements please come to Mrs. Dea’s room at first break today.

  •  All leadership team application forms need to be dropped off into the bucket outside of Mrs. Dea’s class by 3:30 today. 
  •  Have you noticed that our school yard is no longer littered with garbage? A very big thank you goes out to several Grade 1 students in Mr. Pinkerton’s class who, over the last few days, have picked up more than a full black garbage bag of waste from around our school yard. Kiana, Keera, Riley and Maya would like to remind you that we are not supposed to take food outside at recess time. Afterall, it’s WASTE FREE WEDNESDAY today. Let’s take pride in sending less garbage to landfills, and zero garbage in our school yard. YOU CAN DO IT BIRCHVIEW!!!
  • Thank you to those who have brought in donations for the Terry Fox Run next Thursday. We are just over the 60 dollar mark, so please continue to bring in the donations until the date of the run.
  • Intermediate girls basketball tryouts are cancelled today, as the gym is being used for class photos.  A rescheduled tryout announcement will be made later this week.

  •  Any student in grade 4-8 is welcome to come to the Green Team meeting in the library at 10:35, following announcements. Please wait in the hall until Mr. Pinkerton arrives.
  •  Tomorrow will be our first Waste Free Wednesday. That means that here at Birchview Dunes we try to reduce the amount of garbage and recycling items in our lunches. Try to bring a reusable water bottle or juice bottle and use tupperware containers instead of sandwich bags or lunchables. Together, we can make our school a more environmentally freindly place to be.
  •   Intermediate Girls Basketball tryouts begin tomorrow, Wednesday, at first nutritional break; 10:35 to 11:15. Please come dressed in gym clothing with proper footwear and bring your lunches. Ms. Ewaskiw and Mr. Osborn look forward to getting the tryouts started.
  •   There will be a flag football tryout today during 2nd nutrition break.  Students should meet with Mr. Edwards and Ms. Ewaskiw on the field.  Students are also reminded to bring in their insurance forms if they wish to participate with the team.  
  •   Any grade 5, 6, 7 or 8 students who would like to be a part of one of Birchview Dunes Leadership teams needs to have their application form in by Wednesday (tomorrow).

  •  It is only two days before the BOOK FAIR arrives.   On Wed. and Thurs., classes can come view the Book Fair and make their wish list.  Don’t forget to visit the Book Fair during our BBQ on Thursday night.
  •   All students in grades 4-8 who would like to be involved in making our school environmentally friendly, please come to the library at 10:35, following these announcements. This will be our first Green Team meeting of the school year. Come and check it out. The Green Team is especially seeking some Intermediate students who are interested in taking on a leadership role with this very important school club.
  •   Cross country runners – remember that there is a practice tomorrow morning, Tuesday, at 8:10 am.  You need to have both your permission and insurance forms in in order to participate.  Come with your running shoes.  Anyone arriving after 8:20 will not be able to count it as a practice.  Please remember that you need to be committed to three practices per week to remain on the team.   Meet Mr. McLean near the climber out back.  See you tomorrow. 
  •  Thank you to those who have brought in donations thus far for Birchview’s Annual Terry Fox Run. Donations will be accepted daily until the run, which is scheduled for Thursday, September 26th. Donations can be brought down to the office in your class envelopes, and can be left in the container provided in the office. Teachers please make sure to check which students have brought in donations for point tracking purposes. Thank you for your support in helping us achieve our goal of exceeding last year’s total of $1,643.00.
  • There will be a flag football tryout today during 2nd nutrition break.  Students are asked to meet with Mr. Edwards and Miss Ewaskiw outside on the field.

  •  Birchview Dunes will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair once again this year.  Previous Book Fairs have brought in more than $3000.00 in profit.  This money is used to purchase new books and replace the worn out ones.  The Book Fair will be open during the BBQ and during second break on Thurs. and Fri.
  •   There will be the first cross country practice today at second break.  Grades 5 to 8 runners who have returned their permission forms, please meet Mr. McLean outside near the climber at the beginning of second break with your running shoes on and tied up.  Grade four runners, meet him at the same location, by the climbers, at the beginning of your outdoor recess during 2nd break.                                                                                                                        Every lap counts – come prepared to run and enjoy it.  
  •   If you are a responsible, punctual, and caring student in grades 5-8, the Birchview Recycling Crew needs you to help out at the upstairs or downstairs recycling depots. Please come to Mr. Pinkerton’s room, 203, at 10:35, following announcements, for a short meeting and to sign up.
  •  Next Monday, students in grades 4-8 are invited to a different meeting in the library at first break to discuss the Birchview Green Team Projects Crew.   Our first order of business will be to prepare a Waste Free Lunch display for the Parent BBQ.  All teachers are welcome to join us.

  •  The BOOK FAIR is coming next week!  It is fundraising event for our school’s library.  Classes will have the opportunity to sign up to view the Book Fair next Wed. and Thurs.   Please invite your parents to visit the Book Fair during our school’s BBQ night next Thursday. 
  •   There will be an intermediate girls basketball sign up and short meeting today at 10:35 in Mr. Osborn’s room. Please come prepared to go outside once the sign up and meeting is done. Mrs. Ewaskiw and Mr. Osborn are looking forward to a good turnout for the grade 7 and 8 girls basketball team. See you there.

  •  There will be a cross country sign-up for students interested in running with the team today, Wednesday at 2nd break in the gym.  The team is open for students in grades 4-8.  Please come to the gym at 12:55.  There will be three running practices per week and team members must be dedicated and willing to train at least three times per week.  Grade 4 students may bring their lunches to the gym, but only grade 4 students.  The meeting will last approximately 15 minutes.
  •  Attention all intermediate girls in grades 7 to 8. Basketball sign up will be tomorrow, Thursday September 12 at 10:35 in Mr. Osborn’s room.
  •  Before school starts the soccer game on the tarmac is only for grades 3 and 4.  Older students can play soccer in the large field.
  •  Attention all intermediate students in grades 7 to 8. Flag football sign up will be today during first break outside the gym door.
