Daily Announcements

Thursday October 30, 2014

  • A reminder to those students who have signed up for youth club to meet in the gym after school today.
  •  This Friday will be our next Spirit Day.  Dress in black, orange and purple to show your school spirit and earn spirit points.
  •  We are also having our 1st dance of the year to celebrate Halloween and good work habits.  We are also holding a food drive for our local food bank.  Please bring in a can good or a loonie to donate as your admission to the dance.
  •  This is another EcoTeam reminder to help our environment by bringing in your old cell phones. Look on the school blog in the near future for links with more information about what other items you can bring and common questions, like: “how do I erase the memory first?” Place the cell phone in the box in the front foyer and tell Mr. Pinkerton in order to claim your spirit points.
  •  Spirit points will also be awarded for recycling batteries here at Birchview. Make sure you put masking tape over the positive leads on all rectangular 9 volt and 6 volt batteries. You can find tape attached to the white deposit bucket in the front foyer. Then, come see Mr. Pinkerton to claim your spirit points. We are on our way to becoming a certified EcoSchool! Let’s dedicate ourselves to taking action for a healthy planet.
  •   Yesterday was Waste Free Wednesday!  The Kindergartens could not participate this week because they were on vacation!  For the primary division Mr.Brooks’ class won the crown with 9 Litter-less lunches!  For the Junior division, Mr. Underhill’s class had the most lunches with 12 litter-less lunches! Way to go!!   For the Intermediates our winner is Mrs. Ewaskiw’s class!  We would also like to congratulate Mr. Pike for bringing in a waste free lunch himself.  Thank you to all students to brought in a waste free lunch yesterday, it really helps our environment.
  •  Birchview’s junior boys basketball team travelled to Nottawa yesterday afternoon for their area tournament. The boys played strong teams from Nottawa, Creemore, and Byng. Our team showed tremendous effort and great improvement from the start of the season, having a great tournament. They displayed excellent sportsmanship by working together and cheering on their teammates throughout each game. Mr. Brooks is very proud of the boys commitment through the season and how they represented their school yesterday in Nottawa. Great job!
  •  The intermediate leadership team needs to meet in Mrs Dea’s room right after the announcements today for a quick meeting.
  •  The junior girls basketball team travelled to Nottawa yesterday morning to compete in the area tournament. The girls played 3 games against schools from the area, and had a very successful day. Special mention goes out to a few of the players: Lauren for her drives to the basket, Aaliyah for her rebounding, Riley for her awesome defence and great show of sportsmanship, Paityn for her quick passes and…Mikayla for her shots on net!   Thank you to all of our volunteer drivers who got us to and from the tournament. As well we would like to thank to Mr. Osborn, who was missed at the tournament, for his dedication to the team this year!  Thanks for a great season girls!
